The police along with the security forces and health officials, will launch a house-to-house campaign to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds in Colombo from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on Sunday (July 01).

Senior DIG Anura Senanayake told The Island that houses, offices and commercial establishments in Grandpass, Borella, Kirulapone, Wellawatte, Cinnamon Gardens, Narahenpita, Maradana, Dematagoda and Kotahena would be examined for possible mosquito breeding grounds and the offenders will be prosecuted.

The campaign would continue every Sunday in all areas of the Western Province thereafter, the Senior DIG said.

"We have already given several warnings and therefore, those who fail to keep their premises and home gardens clean, thus providing breeding grounds for mosquitoes would be punished under Section 262 of the penal code," DIG Senanayake said.

There would be 700 police personnel, 500 security forces personnel, 300 from the private Security Services and 200 Public Health Inspectors involved in the programme.
