Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene says that he doesn’t endorse draws in cricket and every game he plays he plays to win.
While addressing a media briefing ahead of the second Test against Pakistan that gets underway at SSC today, Jayawardene was asked whether he would be happy to go for a draw to hold onto the 1-0 advantage that Sri Lanka enjoy in search of team’s first series win in three years.
"I don’t play cricket like that. I never played cricket like that," Jayawardene said. "Even charity matches that I play I want to win. I go out to win matches and I try and influence that into my team as well. Playing safe is never going to win you matches or series. If you are developing a team or developing a culture you try to create a winning mentality," Jayawardene, who will equal Sanath Jayasuriya’s record for most number of wins by a Sri Lankan captain if he wins at SSC, said.
