Big turnout for Madhu Feast

Large crowds were converging on Mannar to participate in this year’s major feast of Our Lady of Madhu, said Rev. Fr. A. Victor Sosai, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mannar.

He said that festivities commenced with the hoisting of the flag by the Administrator of the Madhu Church Rev. Fr. S. Emilianu, amidst a large gathering of pilgrims on last Saturday.

The Catholic Church had made preparations with expectations that around 300,000 pilgrims attending the festivities and all arrangements to provide adequate facilities as clean drinking water, lighting, sanitation and shops to provide food and other essentials had been made by the Government Agent of Mannar, Sarath Ravindra under the guidance Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

The festivities will continue until July 2 with the Eucharistic adoration and Eucharistic procession taking place today followed by High Mass celebrated on Monday from 6.30 am.

Bishop of Mannar Rt. Rev. Dr. Rayappu Joseph will at the High mass with the Bishop of Chilaw Rt. Rev. Dr. Valance Mendis and the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo Dr. Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Fernando. More than 100 priests from dioceses in Sri Lanka are participated in the annual feast.
