2800 fugitives caught in ten days

Two thousand eight hundred and fourteen suspects on whom warrants were pending for various offences were arrested between June 20 and 30 from eight provinces.
Police sources told ‘The Island’ that 550 were arrested from the Southern Province (Tangalle, Galle, Elpitiya and Matara Divisions), 573 from Central Province (Kandy), Gampola, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya and Hatton) and 466 from North Western Province (Kurunegala, Kuliyapitiya, Nikaweratiya, Puttalam and Chilaw Divisions).
There were 375 arrests made in the Eastern Province (Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Kantale Divisions), 317 from Sabaragamuwa (Kegalle, Ratnapura, and Seethawaka Divisions), 215 from North Central Province (Anuradhapura, and Polonnaruwa Divisions), 196 from Uva Province (Badulla, Moneragala, and Bandarawela Divisions) and 122 from Northern Province (Vavuniya, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Kankesanthurai, Mannar, Mankulam, and Mulaitivu Divisions).
IGP N. K. Illangakon has issued instructions that this operation to nab all fugitives must be completed by August 1.
