The Sri Lanka Freedom Party Central Committee had decided against giving nominations to wives and children of government ministers and MPs at the forthcoming elections to Sabaragamuwa, Eastern and North Central Provincial councils. SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena told The Island.

The decision had been taken to give an opportunity to those among the younger generation who were serving the party with dedication and sacrifice to contest election, he said.

According to the SLFP General Secretary his party has not yet taken a final decision on the Chief Ministerial candidates and the matter is expected to sorted out after next Friday’s (06) party nomination board meeting.

Meanwhile the United National Party Working Committee has been summoned for a special meeting tomorrow (05) to pick its Chief Ministerial candidates and to take decisions on its campaign.
