Asian Youth Blitz Chess Championship 2012

India miles above the rest



India who dominated the Asian Youth Rapid Chess Championship which was held earlier, showed their class again in the Asian Youth Blitz Chess Championship as they won 16 medals which comprised of six gold, five silver and five bronze medals.


Sanskruti Wankhade (Under-6 girls), N.Priyanka (Under-10 girls), Ram Aravindh (Under -10 open), R.Vishali (Under-12 girls), U.Ashwini (Under-14 girls), J.Saranya (Under-18 girls) were some of the participants who won gold medals in their respective age categories.


Vietnam was placed second after a creditable performance where they won six medals with three of them being gold, two being silver and one bronze. They were impressive especially in the junior age groups such as Under 8 girls and open sections where T.G.T.Pham and D.T.Ngo managed to win gold medals respectively.  Le Tuan Minh was the other gold medal winner for Vietnam in the tournament.


Iran, on the other hand played exceptionally well in senior age groups to grab six medals including 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and a bronze medal. Nima Javanbakht (Under-16 open), Sarasadat Khademalsharish (Under-16 girls), Asgarizadeh Ahamed (Under-14 open) were the gold medal winners for Iran.


Hosts Sri Lanka won 3 medals including 2 silver medals and a bronze medal with Harshana Thilakarathne (Under 10 open) and S.A.Gunarathne (Under-6 open) managing to win silver medals while Tharushi Hiranya (Under-6 girls) won a bronze medal.
