With elections to three Provincial Councils around the corner, the government yesterday announced a reduction in the price of Gas by Rs. 150, effective from midnight yesterday and also a reduction of the import duty on a variety of consumer essentials.

Government sources said that the Ministry of Finance had intervened to bring down the prices. The price of a 12.5 kg cylinder of LP Gas, both, Laugfs and Litro, will now cost the consumer Rs. 2,246. It was earlier priced at Rs. 2,396.

Sources said that like oil prices, liquid petroleum gas prices, too, had come down considerably.

The bench mark Aramco LP Gas has fallen to US$ 606.50 per MT earlier this month, a decline of nearly US$ 104 per MT from May.

The Finance Ministry has also reduced tax on canned fish, potatoes, big onions, dry fish, dried sprats and sugar.
