Dubai, United Arab Emirates, July 10, 2012 — Noor Dubai Foundation has commenced its second in a series of four camps supported by the initiative from His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Presidential Affairs, UAE and Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment. The medical team is currently screening and operating on patients in Puttalam.

According to Dr. Manal Taryam, CEO of Noor Dubai Foundation, the camp which started last week will provide sight saving treatment to patients who have come from all over the country to the city of Puttalam which is located almost 115 Km. from Colombo.

Dr. Taryam explained further and said "Thousands of patients suffering from vision impairment have been screened and treated at the Puttalam Camp. Up until this morning, the medical team has conducted over 370 sight saving operations and is expected to complete almost 500 by the conclusion of the camp."

The camp is the third of its kind by Noor Dubai Foundation in Sri Lanka whereby the foundation collaborated with the country in 2008 and visited it in 2009 to screen and treat 10,000 individuals. Puttalam lacks the specialized medical facilities and professionals required to treat ophthalmic diseases. The 300,000 people residing in the city depend on a specialist from the capital who visits once a week and charitable foundations such as Noor Dubai Foundation.

The camp which received support from humanitarian organizations and the government of Sri Lanka, treated people from Puttalam as well as surrounding areas where patients were provided with buses to bring them to the camp for treatment.

Over the span of 5 days, the medical team will conduct approximately 100 operations daily. The team will also check on patients after 1 week and then again after 6 weeks to ensure their treatment was successful.

The Noor Dubai Medical Team is expected to complete 520 operations by the conclusion of the camp in Puttalam.
