The JVP yesterday predicted that there would be an eruption in the UPFA in the aftermath of the handing over the nominations for the North-Central, Eastern and Sabaragamuwa provincial council elections due to internal splits.
Addressing a press conference at Party head office in Pelawatte, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said that ruling party ally JHU had decided to boycott the election while leftist allies had publicly announced their differences with alliance policies.
Those signs indicated a huge internal rift in the ruling alliance, Silva said.
"Reducing the prices of a few essentials on the day nominations were opened was an outdated trick," he said.
