Ranil has exposed  his dictatorial  tendencies - reformists

By Madura Ranwala

UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had demonstrated his dictatorial tendencies by extending his tenure as the party head from one year to six years by manipulating the party’s Working Committee, Secretary of the Movement for the Protection of the UNP and its Trade Unions Lal Perera said yesterday.

Perera said the party had to be given an opportunity to either re-elect or reject its leader every year but the proposal adopted by the Working Committee would enable Wickremesinghe to go on for six years without being challenged. He said the party reformists and other right minded members were determined to shoot down the controversial proposal which he said smacked of a Hitlerite strategy.

Perera urged the party members to take cognisance of the fact that if the proposal at issue was adopted at the UNP convention to be held this year, the Grand Old Party would be burdened with a leader who had lost 21 elections.
