New Z-score released

by Dasun Edirisinghe

The Examinations Department yesterday released the new Z–score for the GCE (A/L) examination 2011 following a Supreme Court order to calculate Z–score for the old and new syllabi separately.

Commissioner General of Examinations W. M. N. J. Pushpakumara told The Island that students who had obtained poor results under the new Z–score, could apply for this year’s advanced level examination before July 27.

The student who ranked first in the art stream according to the previous Z-score had lost her place according to new Z–score, but there had been no changes in the first ten places in the Bio Science, Mathematics and Commerce streams, he said.

The Examinations Department earlier issued Z–scores by pooling the old and new syllabi according to a formula formulated by an expert committee appointed by the University Grants Commission.

The examination was held in August 2011 with 243,878 candidates.
