Book discussion by Jonathan Spencer

Jonathan Spencer, Professor of Anthropology, at the University of Edinburgh will review the book "Of Tamils and Tigers: A Journey Through Sri Lanka’s War Years," by Ben Bavinck" at the ICES Auditorium, 2, Kynsey Terrace, Colombo 8 on Tuesday, July 24 at 5:30 p.m.

The author of the book Ben Bovinck was born in Indonesia to Dutch missionary parents. As a young man, Bovinck lived through the Nazi occupation of Holland, an experience which left a profound impression on him. In 1954, he moved to Jaffna, to work as missionary-teacher, where he spent the next 17 years at Jaffna College.

The reviewer Professor Jonathan Spencer is a social anthropologist from the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh. His fields of interest include nation, state, politics, violence, Buddhism and Sri Lanka. He has published many books, on politics of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan civil war.
