Colombo ymba hosted The Light of Asia Contest 2012

The Finals and the Prize Giving of the ‘Light of Asia’ Contest 2012 conducted by the Colombo YMBA was held on 21st July 2012 at the Main Hall Borella with Prof. Kshanika Hiriburegama, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo gracing the ceremony as the Chief-Guest. Mr. Suren Abeyagoonasekera, the President of the YMBA welcoming the Chief-Guest and distinguished invitees, outlined the history and importance of the ‘Light of Asia’ Contest and annual increase of contestants participating from Colombo, Kandy, Gampaha, Galle, and Kurunagala. This year over 1300 took part. Rakbo Perera from Marjorie De Alwis School, Nugegoda was adjudged the overall winner carrying the D.N.W. de Silva Memorial Challenge Trophy.


Prof. Kshanika Hiriburegama stressed the importance of study of Buddha Dhamma, with its ethics and values by the younger generation of the country, laying down the foundation for a righteous society of disciplined citizens.


Mr. Sumedha Amerasinghe, Kusumabandu Samarawickrama and Rajah Kuruppu gave away the prizes of the Dhamma Abhidhamma English Examination whilst Mr. Ruwan Fernando, Mr. Suren Abeyagoonasekera and Prof. Hiriburegama gave away prizes of the Light of Asia Contest.
