The UPFA government had striven to provide a better standard of living to the people. The Opposition would not be able to form a government, he said.

Speaking at a UPFA meeting held at Bulathkohupitiya recently, Minister Welgama said that the people had realized that the UPFA government extended a helping hand to the common man to upgrade lives. The development projects Implemented in the rural areas had benefited the people. The former governments had never implemented such development work in the history.

He pointed out that President Mahinda Rajapaksa came to power with the blessings of the rural people. He would never forget them. When the United States of America and some European countries accused the government of human rights violations, people attached to the various political groups objected to those countries irrespective of caste, creed and religion, he said.
