Sri Lanka suffer defeats at Borneo

Sri Lanka sevens national side lost both their group stage matches at HSBC Asian sevens Series-Borneo Sevens at Likas Stadium, Malaysia yesterday.

Sri Lankans were expected to have a hard time considering the lack of luck they had in the tournament draw having been pitted against defending champions Japan and seventh seeded Chinese Taipei. They performed admirably by losing the Japan match 34-7 and coming within a whisker of pulling off a huge upset against Chinese Taipei 17-14.

Chamara Dabare scored the only try in the first game while Saliya Kumara and Vishvawithra Jayasinghe boosted the scores and took the game to a thrilling finish in the latter.

However the narrow loss in the second game means Sri Lanka will have to be satisfied with a Bowl semi- final against Thailand today. (CP)
