The results of the Grade V scholarship examination would be released on or before Sept. 30, the Examinations Department said yesterday.

Addressing the media, at the Education Ministry auditorium, Commissioner General of Examinations W. M. N. J. Pushpakumara said that some answer scripts, brought from North-Central, Eastern and Sabaragamuwa provinces, where the provincial council elections were held, had yet to be evaluated.

He said the department decided to release the results as the investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on alleged leak of Grade V scholarship examination papers, proved that there had been no leak whatsoever.

The nine-page report, signed by IGP N. K. Ilangakoon and Director CID, clearly stated that there was no leak of questions or papers of the Grade V scholarship examination, which was held on Aug. 26.

The Grade Five Scholarship Examination was held at 2,803 examination centres and a total number of 318,416 candidates faced it this year.

Meanwhile, Ceylon Teachers Service Union (CTSU) challenged the CID report.

CTSU General Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe said that the CID report was aimed at hushing up the issue.

"We are ready for any debate to expose things to prove that leaks of some questions in the Grade V scholarship examination papers took place," he said.
