Medical administrators want gloves tender deal probed

The Medical Administrators Forum

has called upon Health Secretary, Dr. Nihal Jayathilake, to probe allegations that a tender for gloves had been awarded to an unregistered supplier.

"This brings into disrepute all the Medical Administrators. As a professional body, we request you to go through this tender awarding file and keep the public informed of the correct position", a statement by Dr. Rukshan Bellana, the Forum’s coordinator, said.

"If any officers are involved, we, as a responsible body, would request you to immediately initiate disciplinary action and remove them from their present official capacities", the statement said.

The statement posed the following questions: Is it true whether this tender has been awarded to an unregistered supplier?, who were the members of the TEC and Tender Board?, who had taken the decision to award the tender to this supplier/TEC or Tender Board?, who has authorized the DG customs to release this consignments?, is it true that two types of gloves have been supplied violating the tender procedure? and who had authorized to accept these unregistered gloves to MSD?
