Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli yesterday granted bail to a member of the Ambalantota Pradeshiya Sabha and five other suspects, who were arrested by the Cinnamon Gardens police, for impersonating at the Korean language proficiency examination, held last weekend.

They were ordered to be released on personal bail in Rs 500,000 each.

A passport and an examination admission card, recovered from suspect Pradeshiya Sabha member, Walter Gamini, were also produced as evidence in the case.

The Cinnamon Gardens police, acting on a complaint lodged by the officials of the Foreign Employment Bureau, had taken the suspects into custody. Under questioning they had allegedly confessed to having sat the examination on behalf of actual candidates.

Five of the suspects were those who had worked in South Korea for a number of years and they had sat the examination on behalf of their relatives and friends.

Investigations are being carried out by Cinnamon Gardens OIC, Chief Inspector Kapila Premadasa, on the directions of Colombo South SP Premalal Ranagala.
