Two students knocked down by Minister’s back-up

Two 19-year-old students of Pannipitiya Dharmapala College were injured yesterday morning when an STF vehicle, escorting Minister of Co-operatives and Internal Trade, Johnston Fernando, knocked them down at Moraketiya Junction, Pannipitiya.
Police spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakody said that the incident had occurred around 5.30 am and the driver of the STF vehicle that was providing security to the minister, at that time, had been arrested.
The injured students were admitted to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Kalubowila and Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital, Kotte following the accident.
The students had been riding a motor cycle at the time and according to hospital sources they were out of danger.
