JJ wants IGP to provide Interpol with info on KP

UNP Gampaha District Parliamentarian Dr, Jayalath Jayawardena yesterday wrote to Inspector General of Police N. K. Illangakoon requesting him to provide Interpol with information on former LTTE arms procurer and fund raiser Kumaran Pathmanathan aka KP, for whose arrest, he says, a Chennai Court has issued an open warrant.
The letter states: "As you an aware, the LTTE destroyed several hundreds of innocent civilians in Sri Lanka and was involved in so many terrorist activities. Mr. Kumaran Pathmanathan. alias KP. was known to be the international fund raiser for the LTTE and was also responsible for supplying weapons and explosives to the LTTE and is also a wanted individual by the Interpol Police.
There is a public notice categorizing Mr. Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP as a wanted person to investigate the abovementioned criminal charges by Interpol in their website. According to the complaint made by the Interpol Police, the Court in Chennai, India has issued an open warrant to arrest KP.
On the 1st of December 2001 as a Member of Parliament, I have tabled a copy of this warrant before the Parliament. When I took up the case of KP in the Parliament, the Secretary to the President, the Attorney General and senior officials of the Attorney 6eneral’s department and the Police department were in the Officers Box in the Parliament.
The Sri Lankan Police is also a Member of Interpol and has been seeking the assistance of Interpol to combat the international terrorism and other related illegal acts and Police I am fully aware that the Sri Lankan Police is maintaining a very close relationship with the Interpol Police.
Under those ircumstances, I strongly feel that the Sri Lankan Police has a moral obligation to inform all details available of Mr Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP to the Interpol Police.
Recently at the Press Conference held by Mr Lakshman Hulugalle, director of the Media Canter for National Security and also by Mr Keheliya Rambukwella, Minister of Media, have revealed the details of Mr Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP.
Therefore I request you to forward all details available with the Sri Lankan Police to the Interpol about Mr Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP. The website of Interpol clearly indicates that the address and fax number for you to send this information.
