Alleged killer of Kotte monks amongst the slain

Welikada prison riot



Manjusri Harsha, the suspect held on remand in connection with the slaying of two Buddhist monks at the Kotte Raja Maha Viharaya early this year was amongst the 27 inmates killed during Friday’s riot.


Police media spokesman, SSP Prashantha Jayakody said that eleven of those killed have been identified as notorious underworld figures and the majority of them were in the death row.


The identity of the following prisoners who lost their lives in the violence were released yesterday: Wasarappulige Kapila alias Kapila, Nilendra Pelpola alias Manju, Lester De Silva, Azwer Deen, Tissa Kumara, Sameera Perera alias Konda Amila, Nimal Atapattu,Thushara Chandana alias Kalu Thushara, Mohamed, Vijaya Rohana alias Gundu and Susantha Perera.
