Lankan dengue specialists invited to present research findings in S’ pore

Three Sri Lankan scientists, Prof. Ranjan Premaratne of the Faculty of Medicine Ragama, Dr. Neelika Malavige of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayawardenapura and Dr. Kapila de Alwis of the Gampola Base Hospital, have been invited to present their research findings at the forthcoming dengue and emerging infections conference in Singapore from November 21 to 23.

Prof. Premaratne and Dr. Kapila de Alwis are due to present preliminary research findings on the effective management of severe dengue and the usefulness of steroids in preventing severe illness and dengue deaths.

Dr. Neelika Malawige, in-charge of the dengue research unit of the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital, will present her findings on pathogenesis of severe dengue. She is involved in conducting research to find out why dengue causes serious illness in some and not in others.

In addition, Prof. Premaratne will deliver a lecture on dengue and Chikungunya infections.
