Allergic reaction due to stress, excitement

The investigations carried out so far by medical teams in areas where allergic reactions were reported in schools have revealed that the conditions may have been a result of students stress and excitement on seeing others developing allergic reactions.


The Health Ministry spokesman said yesterday that the group of dermatologists, physicians, peadiatricians had met Additional Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Epidemiologists, Specialists from the Medical Research Institute (MRI) and from the Colombo University for a review meeting on their observations on students rushed hospital with allergic symptoms in Gampola, Kandy, Weligepola, Ampara, Colombo and Ratnapura,.


Only three or four students had shown allergic symptoms.  Students from Ampara Gamini College, Dematagoda, Anurudhdha Girls School, Minuwangoda Polwatta Sri Rathanasara Vidyalaya and Balangoda Pinnawala Udagama Maha Vidyalaya have been admitted to hospital with itching and dizziness during the past few weeks.
