Anaesthetist’s whereabouts remain a mystery

The Galle and Matara police have launched a joint search operation to trace the whereabouts of an anaesthetist attached to the Matara hospital, who had gone missing since last Friday evening.

According to the police Dr. Erandi Kulasinghe had left the hospital in her car saying that she was going to meet her husband in Hikkaduwa.

Her husband, Dr. Janith Ruwan Dayananda, a medical officer in the Army, expressed shock over his wife’s sudden disappearance and said that she had no enemies.

He told The Island that she had lived in the Matara hospital quarters and visited home once a week. They kept in touch over the phone.

Dr. Dayananda said that he had spoken to his wife around 5.30 p.m. and she told him that she had just left the Matara hospital and was driving home. The last time she spoke to him over the phone was around 6.55 p.m. when she told him that there was heavy traffic and she was near the Galle Cement factory.

"When I called the next time, her phone had been switched off and since she didn’t reach home, a complaint was lodged with the Galle police," Dr. Dayananda said. We have no enemies and I am puzzled over her disappearance," he said.

The police said that the 28-year-old doctor’s mobile phone had been switched off, but they were confident that there would be a breakthrough soon.
