Military court recommends 3 years jail for Fonseka

The second court marital had recommended that former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka be sentenced to three years in jail, Director of the Media Centre for National Security Lakshman Hulugalle said yesterday evening.


He said the three-judge Court martial panel consisting of Majors General M. B. Pieris, M. Hathurusinghe and S. W. L. Daualagala had found the former Army Commander guilty on four counts – purchasing night vision devices, generators, batteries and VHF direction finders without following tender procedures, while he was the Army Commander.


Hulugalle said that the recommendations of the military court would be forwarded to the President upon his return from an official tour of Germany and the US.
