Govt. launches Rs. 60 billion  development drive in four districts

The government has undertaken an ambitious integrated programme to develop four Districts, Ampara, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa, as part of the seventh Deyata Kirula exhibition to be held at the Hardy Technical Training Institute, Ampara on Feb. 4.


The government had allocated Rs. 45.3 billion for selected projects in the four districts in sectors such as education, health, roads and transport, irrigation, water supply, agriculture, regional development, electricity and environment, Chairman of the Deyata Kirula Exhibition Committee and Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology Ranjith Siyambalapitiya told The Island yesterday.


The Ampara District will have a total allocation of Rs. 13,168 million which will be disbursed for education - Rs. 1,411 million, Health - 423 million, Highways and Transport – 2,770 million, Irrigation – 1,121 million, Water supply - Rs. 3,793 million, Agriculture - Rs. 165 million, Regional Development – Rs. 970 million, electricity supplies - Rs. 2,327 million and Environment - Rs. 187 million.


Similarly, The Trincomalee District will have a total allocation of Rs. 8,852 million which will be allocated for Education- Rs. 547 million, Health – Rs. 132 million, Highways and Transport- 3,331 million, Irrigation – Rs. 299 million, Water supply – 2,735 million, Agriculture - Rs. 34 million, Regional Development – Rs. 886 million, electricity supplies - Rs. 879 million and Environment - Rs. 9 million.


The Batticaloa District will have a total allocation of Rs. 8,243 million which will be spread over education - Rs. 550 million, Health - 120 million, Highways and Transport – Rs. 4,488 million, Irrigation – Rs. 877 million, Water supply – 578 million, Agriculture - Rs. 90 million, Regional Development – Rs. 970 million, electricity supplies - Rs. 2327 million and Environment - Rs. 187 million.


The Polonnaruwa District will have a total allocation of Rs. 15,112 million which will be divided among the fields of education - Rs. 554 million, Health - 490 million, Highways and Transport - 11,424 million, Irrigation – Rs. 1,767 million, Water supply – 102 million, Agriculture - Rs. 115 million, Regional Development – Rs. 370 million, electricity supplies - Rs. 250 million and Environment - Rs. 40 million.
