KANDY – School Children participating in the Independence Day celebrations, organized by the Kandy District Secretariat and other State organizations, would receive certificates of participation.
This recognition would attract school children to attend Independence Day activities, said Kandy District Secretary (GA) H. M. Gamini Seneviratne on Monday (07).
He said schools play an important role in the annual National Independence Day celebrations at district level, particularly in Kandy, where the celebrations were held at the Bogambara Stadium.
The District Secretary made the observation at a meeting of the District Secretariat of Kandy to discuss arrangements for the 65th National Independence Day celebrations on February 04.
The celebrations include a march past and a parade with twenty five schools and fifty schools bands.
Sixty five National Flags will be carried in front of the students march past and procession.
The celebrations in Kandy will be held under the patronage of the Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa with the participation of the Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake and Kandy Mayor Mahindra Ratwatte.
Meanwhile, the Independence Day observance, annually held by the Kandy Municipal Council at the statue of D. S. Senanayake, the first Prime Minister, at Mahamaluwa will take place at the venue on February 04.
