Officers-in-charge (OIC) of three police stations were interdicted on Thursday over an assault in the Negombo police station five years ago.

The interdicted officers are the OICs of the Koswatta, Rasnayakapura and Saliyawewa police stations.

The investigation had been conducted by the police special investigation unit in 2007 and the report had been forwarded to the Attorney General.

Police spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakody told The Island that the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, in charge of the North Western Province, A. Asoka Wijethillake had interdicted the three police officers for the alleged assault as the Attorney General had ordered the Department to file a case against them.

The complaint had been made against them while they were Sub Inspectors at the Negombo police station. When asked why the investigation had been delayed that long, he said: "That you have to ask the AG."
