The Rajapaksa Central College, Weeraketiya and Devi Balika Vidyalaya Colombo have produced the best performers at the GCE (A/L) examination 2012.
According to results issued on Wednesday R. S. P. Kasun and Rusiru Rangika of Rajapaksa Central College topped the results in the Bio Science and Mathematics streams respectively.
Upeksha Sewwandi, Seshani Gunathilake and Samali Liyanage of Devi Balika Vidyalaya Colombo had topped the Arts, Commerce and ‘Other’ stream respectively.
"This is the first time that students of the same school came on top in more than one stream at a GCE (A/L) examination," Commissioner General of Examinations W. M. N. J. Pushpakumara said.
Thisari Sashipraba Athukorala of Southlands College, Galle and Dushan Nilanka Piyaratne of Royal College, Colombo secured the second and third places in the Bio Science stream respectively, while Tharindu Nuwan Mallawarachchi of Rahula College, Matara and B. Kapilan of Hartley College, Point Pedro were placed second and third respectively in the Mathematics stream.

Vidyalaya Gampaha and Hiruni Bolonne of the St. Lawrence’s School, Colombo 06, while Sajini Fernando of Methodist College Colombo 03 and Sudeera Prasadini Ratnayake of Holy Family Convent, Wennappuwa secured the second and third places in the Arts stream.
Pushpakumara said that this time the ‘Z–score’ marks and ranks had been calculated separately for the New and Old syllabii.
The examination was held at 2,093 centres countrywide from August 06 to 30. There were 277,601 candidates––236,025 under the new syllabus. There was also a special examination centre for prisoners at the Kalutara prison and two special centres for blind students at Tangalle and Ratmalana.
