Sakvithi gets two years RI for bigamy

Colombo High Court Judge Vimal Nambuwasam yesterday sentenced Sakvithi Ranasinghe to two years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 25,000 on his pleading guilty to a charge of bigamy.


The bigamy charge was filed by the Attorney General.


A. M. Chandana Weerakumara alias Sakwithi, had married his first wife Subashini de Silva on March 9, 1998. While that marriage was in force, he had married for the second time, Anuruddhika Kumari, and had two children by her.


Sakwithi and Anuruddhika are both in remand for a financial fraud.
