Army Commander visits Trinco, inspects housing projectsFebruary 1, 2013, 9:32 pm
Army Commander Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya, currently in Trincomalee to supervise National Independence Day arrangements, took time off on Friday (Feb. 1) afternoon to visit several ongoing housing and development projects in Sampoor and Seedanaveli in the East.
Lt. Gen. Jayasuriya inspected the ‘Seedanaveli’ housing project for recently resettled families in Sampoor. He was accompanied by Security Forces Commander, East, Maj. Gen. Lal Perera.
A senior army official told The Island that the army would soon complete the 56 housing units at Seedanaveli. The work is spearhead by the Engineer Service Regiment (ESR) and Security Forces Headquarters- East (SFHQ-E).
Lt. Gen. Jayasuriya instructed the army to expedite work as more housing units were needed. The official said that funds were received from ‘Habitat Humanity’ for the project.
Earlier in the day, the Commander evaluated development and renovation work of the historic ‘Lankapatuna’ temple at Illangathurai and made inquiries regarding the needs of residential monks.
