Amitha Gamage new Gems and Jewelry Authority Chairman

Amitha Kumara Gamage assumed duties as the 15th chairman of the Gems and Jewelry Authority on Wednesday (17).


He obtained his primary education at Nalanda College and he is an Accountant by profession.


He worked at KPMG (Ford Rhodes Thornton and Company) and Meralis Chartered Accontantsin the UK. Subsequently he obtained a MBA (Master inBusiness Administration) from the University of Western Sydney. He is currently reading for a Doctor in Business Administr-ation (DBA), awarded by the university of Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok.


His expertise in the Gem and Jewelry field includes a diploma in gem identification and valuation anda diploma in gem cutting (obtained the best cutters’ award).He has followed a coursein jewelry manufacturing and designing and has followed the Fellow of Gemmological Association of Great Britaingemology course on the gem industry as well.


He has worked as a Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/ Managing Director in two, Board of Investment (BOI) approvedcompanies in partnership with the USA and Germany which have been involved in the gem and jewelry trade.
