Acid attack victim Ayur comm. regains some sight

Champika Ranasinghe, the wife of Kumara de Alwis, the former Ayurveda Commissioner of North Central Province, said that the vision of her husband’s left eye was slightly restored after he was operated on by Dr. Charith Fonseka.

Dr. de Alwis was the victim of an acid attack in February. The two attackers visited his official residence on February 22 pretending to have brought a serious patient to the hospital and claimed that they were from his village.

After the Commissioner requested his wife to prepare tea for the visitors and she went inside, the men flung acid on him and fled.

The duo were arrested by the Anuradhapura police and under interrogation, they confessed that a rival of the Commissioner, who was eying his post had given them a contract to carry out the attack.

His rival was also arrested.
