The second death anniversary of the young Katunayake Free Trade Zone worker, Roshen Chanaka, who succumbed to his injuries following Police shooting, when FTZ workers were protesting against the controversial pension fund for private sector employees, falls today (June 1).

Katunayake FTZ workers, led by the Joint Trade Union Alliance (JTUA), successfully protested and struck work against the proposed bill.

Secretary of the Free Trade Zones and General Services Employees Union (FTZ & GSEU), Anton Marcus wrote to President Rajapaksa on May 26 this year (2013) to publish the Tillekeratne Commission report.

Marcus told The island that many FTZ workers, injured in the attack in 2011, had made submissions before the Tillekeratne

Commission. He said that the FTZ & GESU had a right to access the report and to know its recommendations and conclusions as it was the only trade union that went before the Commission.
