Uva PC member assaults SLTB depot head

In the wake of Embilipitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman allegedly assaulting two police constables, a UPFA member of the Uva Provincial Council has now been accused of having assaulted the Keppetipola SLTB Depot Superintendent.

General Secretary of JVP led All Ceylon Transport Workers’ Union Sepala Liyanage alleged that UPFA Uva Provincial Council member S. H. Bandusena assaulted the Keppetipola DS two days ago as he refused to provide buses to transport people to a UPFA meeting.

The victim had been admitted to the Welimada Hospital, he said, adding that they had complained to the Welimada police, but they had yet to question the councilor.

Liyanage said Councilor Bandusena who came to the depot with a gang asked for buses to transport people for a meeting in which President Mahinda Rajapaksa would participate as the chief guest.

"The councilor had no prior approval from SLTB top management to get buses," Liyanage said.

Liyanage said that they had informed President Rajapaksa of the incident.

When contacted for comment, Welimada Police OIC, Inspector Buddhika Ekanayake, said that the DS had lodged a complaint at his police station.

However, the Uva Provincial Council member had promised the police that he would apologise to the depot official for the incident at his office in the Keppetipola Depot, IP Ekanayake said.
