Colombo South Zonal players will be released: Muttetuwegama

Yaswanth Muttetuwegama, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation, confirmed ‘The Sunday Island’ yesterday the selection session to be held on Saturday June 22 to select the 3rd FIBA Asia Under-16 Basketball Championship for Women will not affect the players who are taking part in the Under-19 Colombo South Zonal Girls Basketball Tournament.


The Colombo South Zonal Girls Basketball Tournament is scheduled from June 20 to 25 at St. Lawrence’s Convent, Wellawatte clashing with the selection session date.


Muttetuwegama speaking to ‘The Sunday Island’ yesterday said: "This is only a practice session to select the team for the 3rd FIBA Asia Under-16 Basketball Championship for Women and the Federation has decided to release the players who are involved in the Under-19 Colombo South-Zonal Girls Basketball Tournament."


Muttetuwegama further adding said: "There are more selection sessions to be held in future prior to selecting the final team for this Championship and Federation will consider the players who are involved in the Colombo South-Zonal Tournament in future selection sessions."


The 3rd FIBA Asia Under-16 Basketball Championship for Women will be hosted by Sri Lanka at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo and this is the first occasion that Sri Lanka is hosting a similar king of a championship.
