Italy gifts milk processing plant to Pera. University

KANDY – The milk processing factory gifted by the people of Italy is yet another step towards strengthening the mutual understanding and relationship between Sri Lanka and Italy, said Deputy Ambassador for Italy in Sri Lanka Giavdomenico Milano. He was speaking on the occasion of opening the university milk processing factory at the Mawalawatta farm.


The Deputy Ambassador recalled the mutual exchange of assistance between Sri Lanka and Italy during the past years and added that the new milk processing factory would benefit the university and the milk farming community of the area.


Vice Chancellor of the Peradeniya University Professor Athula Senaratne said that the factory would benefit the milk producers around the University of Peradeniya.


The plant is an invaluable gesture of the people of Italy, he added.


The milk processing factory is a gift from an NGO based in Italy titled ICI. Milk would be supplied to the factory by the Federation of Milk Farmers Unions around Peradeniya.


Country Representative for Italy in Sri Lanka Massimo Riva, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, of the University, Professor K. Samarasinghe, Head Department of Animal Science, University of Peradeniya Professor H.W. Cyril, Professor T. Demataweera, Dr. Kumara Mahipala, public relations officer G.K.
