An operation has been launched by the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB), with the assistance of the Police, to nab errant mill owners who have not returned the rice milled from paddy given to them by the PMB, particularly in the Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa and Ampara districts.

PMB Chairman K. B. Jayasinghe told The Island that an errant mill owner, S. D. Piyasena, had to pay a fine of Rs. 06 million after being arrested by the Nikaweratiya Police and produced before the Galgamuna Magistrate on Thursday (20).

Two mill owners T. B. Gamage and Wasantha were also arrested from the Polonnaruwa District and were fined.

Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando has instructed that errant mill owners be apprehended and prosecuted within 30 days and all monies due to the PMB be recovered.
