Sinhalese students clash at Jaffna University

by Dasun Edirisinghe

A clash between two groups of Sinhala undergraduates, of the Jaffna University Science Faculty, on Sunday, resulted in injuries to four of them.

Jaffna Police OIC, Chief Inspector Saman Sigera, told The Island that the clash was sparked by an argument between the first year and second year students.

He said that both factions lodged complaints with the Jaffna headquarters Police.

"Both factions agreed to settle the issue and assured not to get involved in further clashes," Sigera said.

The HQI said that no student was harmed in the fight.

However, the university sources said that four Sinhala students were injured in the clash and were treated at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
