KANDY: A 31-year-old woman of Madawala, near Kandy, yesterday (27) morning delivered quintuplets at the Kandy General Hospital.

The lucky mother was Fathima Fasis, who was longing for a child since her marriage five years ago.

This was her first pregnancy.

Fathima’s husband, Mohamed Rina, 36, is out of the country at the moment.

The babies were born prematurely and Kandy Hospital Gynaecologists said their weights were between 500 and 750 grams.

One of them is a girl.

A team of young doctors, under the supervision of specialist gynaecologist, Kapila Gunawardana, attended to the confinement.

The team comprised gynaecologists Jeevantha, Achala, Apeksha, Nilanthi and Pradeep. Three of the infants are being taken care of at Kandy General Hospital while two are at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.

The mother and babies are in good health.
