The Criminal Investigations Department has arrested a Sri Lankan Professor, attached to a University in Sweden, over alleged sexual abuse of young Lankan women and blackmail.

The professor, who is currently on holiday in Sri Lanka, was arrested following a complaint made by one of his victims.

He is alleged to have befriended young women via Skype and taken them to hotels, where he sexually abused them.

The CID sleuths said that the professor, who had lived in Sweden, had been engaged in such crimes during the last four years.

His modus operandi had been to befriend girls from affluent families via Skype and visit Sri Lanka on a holiday and take them to hotels and abuse them, the police said.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect had engaged in unnatural sex with his victims and videoed them. The pornographic material had been later made public by him.

The victims have complained that the suspect had blackmailed them after videoing the sex acts.

The CID, after conducting investigations, following a complaint lodged by one of his victims, a teacher of a leading school, arrested his driver.

The main suspect was arrested following further investigations, the police said.

The sleuths said several young women had been seduced by him.
