NCP cannot set a Grade Six paper properly

The Grade Six Sinhala language and Literature term test paper for schools in the North Central Province was cancelled yesterday as it contained answers as well.

President of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Priyantha Fernando told The Island that around 20,000 Grade Six students in the province were scheduled to sit the paper yesterday.

"Answers to six questions in the Sinhala Language and Literature second paper, were printed on the fourth page thereof" Fernando said, adding that it had been printed at the Government Press.

Fernando said that the cancelled paper had not been sent to some schools as the Provincial Education Director ordered its withdrawal yesterday morning, but the paper had already been delivered to most of the rural schools in the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa Districts.

Fernando said that last time, too ,there had been several mistakes in the term test papers in the North Central Province.

"Teachers who prepare test papers are required to proof-read them before printing, so how can it happen?" he asked.

When contacted for comment, Secretary of the North Central Province Education Ministry P. K. Premasiri said there had been a lapse on the part of the Government Press.

He said that they had cancelled the paper yesterday and a new paper would be issued shortly.
