Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena says he has instructed the Thriposha Company to formulate a plan to increase its production to cater to the needs of an increasing population for the next five years.

The Thriposha Company which is under the purview of the Health Ministry has increased its production capacity up to 60 per cent. But as the demand is high, the production capacity needs to be expanded to cater to 1.3 million recipients in the country. Thriposha was distributed to people free of charge, Minister Sirisena said during his recent visit to Thriposha company.

Minister Sirisena pointed out that the production unit had been given modern machinery to produce enough Thriposha for the needy. At the moment only two packets of Thriposha were given to the people. But he had instructed Thriposha company Chairman Kiran Attaputtu to give four packets to each person instead of two. He has also instructed the Chairman to prepare a sound production plan to meet the demand of the increasing population in the next five years. He wants to expedite the purchasing of soya beans, maize and sago from local farmers who had not been registered.
