Stamp to honour Fr. Tissa

 The Philatelic Bureau, of the Postal Department of Sri Lanka, will issue a stamp in honour of Rev. Fr. Tissa Balasuriya (OMI), who passed away early this year.

Fr. Tissa was known for his theological work and his efforts to uplift the lives of the poor.

Fr. Tissa is the fourth Oblate to receive such an honour from the State. Before that, stamps were issued in honour of Bishop Edmund Peiris, Fr. Marcelline Jayakody and Cardinal Thomas Cooray.

There will be a simple ceremony at the CSR in Maradana on the August 29 when the stamp will be issued. Fr. Tissa’s 89th birthday falls on the August 29. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleke will be the guest speaker.
