Cardiac surgeons in Kandy call off strike

Cardiac surgeons, at the Kandy Teaching Hospital (KTH), called off their strike on Tuesday (13) after cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Rajith de Silva left the Colombo National Hospital to assume duties at the Sri Jayewardenepura Teaching Hospital.

Informed CNH source said that the issue had been settled by Tuesday (13) when the Cardio Thoracic surgeon of the Lady Ridgeway hospital for Children assumed duties at the National Hospital, while his place was filled in by a surgeon who had prematurely retired to join the private sector. He said that Dr. Y. K. M. Lahie had assumed duties at LRH on contract basis.

Cardiac Surgeons of the Kandy Hospital struck work demanding the immediate removal of Dr. de Silva from the National Hospital claiming that he was too junior to fill the post. (DJ)
