Kandy becomes Ayoddhya’s sister city

KANDY: Governor of Ayoddhya City, Thailand Vitthaya Piew Pong and Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday for the Cultural Development of Kandy as a sister city of Ayoddhya.


The agreement was signed by the two governors, at the Secretariat of the Central Province Governor in Kandy, in the presence of a delegation from Ayoddhya, and a representative the local group headed by Kandy Mayor Mahindra Ratwatte.


Kobbekaduwa and his counterpart from Ayoddhaya said that both cities would benefit immensely and the age-old religious and cultural relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand would develop further.


Among others present were Deputy Mayor of Kandy, Sena Dissanayake, Municipal Commissioner Chandana Tennekoon, Deputy Commissioner Ms. R. M. N. Ratnayake and Council’s Chief Engineer P. B. Abeykoon.
