Dayasiri promises Buddhist charter

Former UNP firebrand and now the UPFA candidate for the North-Western Provincial Council election Dayasiri Jayasekera has promised to bring about a Charter on Buddhist Affairs if elected.


Jayasekera, speaking at the public meeting hall in Panduwasnuwara, where the Registrar monks of 36 Sasanarakshaka Bala Manadalas were present, said that the charter would be in line with the policies of the line ministry on Buddhist Affairs.


He said that temples in the province were in a neglected situation as the provincial ministry of religious affairs had not cooperated with the line ministry. "I will become the Chief Minister of NCP and will bring a new Charter on Buddhist Affairs to uplift the Sasana in the province."


The former UNP MP said that he needed the assistance of bhikkhus and promised that he would get the council to promote the new Charter which would help betterment of the Sasana in the province.
