By Norman Palihawadana

The government yesterday denied that the police prevented the public from meeting visiting UN High Commissioner Navi Pillay during her visit to the North last week.

Secretary to the Ministry of law and order, Major General (retd.) Nanda Mallawaarachchi,

Said that those allegations were heard only from Pillay, during the press conference on Saturday and not from the public.

Jaffna DIG Indu Karunaratha also rejected the allegations.

So far no complaints had been made by the public to support Navi Pillay’s allegation, he said.

Meanwhile senior DIG of the North Gamini Silva said that the police were only involved in traffic management during Navi Pillay’s tour of the North.
