Ousted Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake has been noticed to appear in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (16) in relation to three cases filed against her, by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, over her alleged failure to divulge details of two bank accounts in her asset declaration, in three consecutive years.

She is alleged to have failed to provide the details of two accounts at the National Development Bank in her declarations of assets in the years 2010, 2011 and 2012.

At the request of the Bribery Commission, she has been noticed, by Chief Magistrate Gehan Pilapitya, to appear before him to read the charges against her.

Sources said that it was the first time in Lankan history a case against a former chief justice was being taken up in a Magistrate’s Court.
