A’sangaree wants his K’nochchi house back
June 27, 2010, 9:38 pm
TULF leader V. Anandas-angaree says the government is yet to release the house he had rented in Kilinochchi, though several requests had been made over the past several months. Responding to a query by The Island, the veteran politician said that he had taken up this issue with several senior politicians and officials but so far failed to convince them of his right to live in Kilinochchi.
According to him, the house belonged to the late Sir Ponnambalam Ramanathan and it had been gifted to his longtime secretary. "I rented the house from him a long time ago and believed it could be used for political activity after the defeat of the LTTE. But now I am denied that opportunity by the government," he said.
He likened the government attitude to that of the LTTE. Those who supported the war against LTTE terror were not given the recognition they deserved. Former MP Anandasangaree said that he could have done better at the April 8 parliamentary elections had he been given an opportunity to campaign in Kilinochchi. "Unfortunately, the government denied a place for me to stay, thereby ensuring my defeat," he said. (SF)
